My name is Aiden Ray and I’m a Trustee of Youthfocus NW.
My involvement with Youthfocus NW began when I was 16 years old and I was elected to my 6th form’s council and from this I attended Lancaster City Youth Council where I was elected as Member of Youth Parliament for Lancaster in 2012.
In this role I represented my district in two ways:
Firstly as a full member of Youth Parliament in the North West regional group – Youthforia, where I first encountered the organisation now known as Youth Focus NW.
Secondly, in attending County Council meetings where we could discuss, inform and hold County Councillors accountable on issues regarding young people across Lancashire with my fellow county MYPs and Youth Councillors.
Whilst a Member of Youth Parliament I was elected area representative for Lancashire in 2013, working on the Youthforia Steering Group to help organise Youthforia, chairing some meetings and attending all. I also had the privilege of representing the whole North West as a debate lead on votes for 16 at the 2014 sitting.
In 2015 I turned 18 and as an ‘adult’ I felt it was time to step back from Youthforia itself but I still had a passion for youth representation and wanted to share my experience. As such I sought a role on the Board of Youthfocus NW. After one year on the Board I am now a Trustee entering my second year.
Personally, I am currently living and studying in Manchester. Studying International Politics followed by the global events of the last 3 years has kept me engaged and educated about my passions, visiting the United Nations on a summer school as well as other international Youthfocus NW conferences and events. I will never forget what I have got out of Youthfocus NW so today I am trying to give that back as your Trustee.
